Busting the Bulb

The chapter’s Green Committee and the Kellogg Clean Technology and Energy Affinity Group San Francisco Bay organized an inspiring event about lighting and energy efficiency in May.

Dian Grueneich, the clean technology and energy partner at international law firm Morrison & Foerster, delivered the keynote address about policy and regulation in lighting as defined in the California Energy Efficiency Strategic Plan. Grueneich is also a former member of the California Public Utilities Commission. Peter Ngai, vice president of research and development at Acuity Brands and multiple award-winner for developments in lighting, explained his vision of future lighting solutions from a technology and innovation standpoint. Philips Lumileds COO Matthijs Glastra provided a more global perspective on expected developments in lighting markets, businesses and investments.

That was one of the themes discussed May 21 during the Silicon Valley Forum’s second Asia Business Forum, which focused on China. As the most populated country in the world with more than 1 billion people supporting a more than $10 trillion GDP, China presents a tremendous opportunity for U.S. businesses. And yet, considering its cultural differences, China presents a tremendous challenge as well.

10th Annual Estate Planning Symposium: Estate Planning and Compliance Under the New Laws

Estate planning is a three-legged stool. Each leg is just as important as the other, and the stability is interdependent on the coordination and load distribution of each leg. The three legs are the different members of the professional team that delivers the required services to effect a good and tax-efficient estate plan: the tax accounting professional, the legal professional and the financial services professional who provides the financial assets.

Estates & Trusts Committee: Irrevocable Trusts
