Steve Reiss has been appointed by San Jose Mayor Chuck Reed to serve on the city’s Small Business Development Commission. The commission serves in an advisory capacity to the San Jose City Council to promote economic vitality in the city. Congratulations, Steve!

The chapter board has approved the following slate of officers and directors for 2012–13 as proposed by the chapter’s Nomination Committee. Eligible chapter members will receive a separate email at a later date asking for the approval of the proposed slate.

The dragon is the fifth symbol in the 12-year Chinese astrological calendar and is associated with confidence and success, so this Year of the Dragon is an appropriate time to explore the opportunities involved in doing business with Asia, China and India, and the opportunities presented by Asian investment in the United States.

More than 95 golfers took part in our Sept. 16 tournament to support a great cause—our chapter’s scholarship fund. Annually we award the money raised from the golf tournament and other scholarship events to outstanding accounting students from local colleges and universities at an honorees dinner to be held Jan. 25, 2012. Please mark your calendars now.

Create a five-person team from your firm and join more than 700 colleagues from the CPA profession in raising funds for financial literacy instruction for local children in this event by co-sponsored by the CalCPA Silicon Valley/San Jose Chapter and Junior Achievement.
Each team member has a $100 fundraising goal.
