Steve Reiss has been appointed by San Jose Mayor Chuck Reed to serve on the city’s Small Business Development Commission. The commission serves in an advisory capacity to the San Jose City Council to promote economic vitality in the city. Congratulations, Steve!

The chapter board has approved the following slate of officers and directors for 2012–13 as proposed by the chapter’s Nomination Committee. Eligible chapter members will receive a separate email at a later date asking for the approval of the proposed slate.

The dragon is the fifth symbol in the 12-year Chinese astrological calendar and is associated with confidence and success, so this Year of the Dragon is an appropriate time to explore the opportunities involved in doing business with Asia, China and India, and the opportunities presented by Asian investment in the United States.

CalCPA’s Silicon Valley San Jose and Peninsula/Silicon Valley chapters are joining forces with the Financial Planning Association of Silicon Valley to present a briefing from Yelena Takhtamanova, an economist with the Federal Reserve Bank in San Francisco. Her discussion will focus on the macroeconomic outlook, recent monetary policy actions and expectations for 2012.
