Stepping Up
By Ben Towne, CPA
Welcome, everyone, to a new year! I hope you’re reading this Bulletin from a sunny beach somewhere far from tax returns, general ledgers and demanding clients of all stripes.
As a professional association, CalCPA is embarking on a new decade and a new century. This fiscal year represents the Silicon Valley San Jose Chapter’s 61st year and CalCPA’s 101st year. As we go forward, we will build on the tremendously successful body of work that has been established by the leaders who have stepped up before us. We intend to both maintain and grow our chapter, and 12 months from now, we hope to hand over to the next crop of leaders an organization that is one year better than it is now. In the next 52 weeks you will see an emphasis on leadership development, with a particular focus on the leadership development lifecycle.
As professionals advance through their careers, leadership takes on different meanings. But at all levels, leadership starts with something very practical: simply stepping up. Thank you to our current and past board members and committee chairs for stepping up to help us lead our chapter and its more than 2,700 members.
“In any moment of decision the best thing you can do is the right thing, the next best thing is the wrong thing, and the worst thing you can do is nothing.” Theodore Roosevelt.
I look forward to serving as your new president.
