Expect Great Things

By Karen Pfau-Martinez, CPA

13_pres_sm_0_0I am happy to report we had a very successful chapter planning conference. I was so pleased to see many committee chairs participating in our discussions. I want to thank all of you for taking the time to make the chapter viable and providing relevant topics for our members. We have some good programs coming up this month; make sure you check them out under “Chapter Events” on the right. We expect great things from our energetic group.

Our chapter sponsored a Managing Partners Breakfast June 1. A large group attended, and CalCPA CEO Loretta Doon was our keynote speaker. She discussed CalCPA’s role and encouraged firm involvement for young, emerging staff, as well as for seasoned professionals. My only regret: not enough time to talk among ourselves.

I attended the CalCPA Annual Members Business and Council meeting June 24–25. The council meeting keeps us informed regarding government relations and what is happening in Sacramento. The meeting also provides us with an opportunity to share our chapter’s successes with other chapters.  Since the meeting took place following presstime, I will report what transpired next month.

Make a note of Tuesday, Sept. 21, when the chapter will host its Eighth Annual Golf Tournament at Harding Park. I have been involved in the tournament with Jed Greene for the last six years and have sold more than 2,400 mulligans to raise scholarship funds for our chapter. These mulligans have improved the golf scores of everyone who has participated! So put the tournament on your calendar and join us for a wonderful day of golf, dinner and exercise. Who knows? You might even make it to the leader board. Oh, and don’t forget the raffle tickets. Over the last six years, the tournament has netted more than $30,000 for the chapter’s scholarship fund. Thank you! You can register for the tournament by downloading and completing the flier online.
