Whistlestop Seeking Volunteers for 2009 Tax Year
Whistlestop, a center serving older adults and persons with disabilities, is gearing up its Free Income Tax Assistance Program and is looking for volunteers to help prepare returns for low and moderate income residents for tax year 2009. Volunteers are required to take the IRS Volunteer Income Tax Assistance and Tax Wise training to become certified. Whistlestop and the IRS will provide the training and volunteers can take the test online. Generally, volunteers commit to one-half day a week.
The group also needs volunteers to assist the tax preparers. The season runs from Feb. 5 to April 15. Whistlestop tax volunteers will work at Margaret Todd Senior Center in Novato; Whistlestop Active Aging Center in San Rafael; and the Mill Valley Community Center.
If you are interested, please call Activity & Resource Center Manager Debbie Benedetti at (415) 456-9062 or e-mail Debbie.benedetti@thewhistlestop.org.
