Looking Forward to a New Year!
By Joseph A. Forlenza, CPA
We had an elegant and festive holiday party Dec. 9 at the Hotel Solamar. Thank you to everyone who made this year’s celebration—and to everyone who brought a toy or a gift for the Toys for Tots program.
I also would like to thank all the past presidents who attended the party. The chapter has made real progress in tying together the experience of our longtime members with the enthusiasm and creative energy of our shorter-term members. And a special thank you to those members who have volunteered to be mentors or take leadership positions in the chapter. This relationship is one of joining the best of the past with the potential of the present to create a better future for the profession as a whole.
As I have mentioned, the world is changing very quickly. Because of technological advances, change that has historically taken centuries is happening in a matter of years. What this means is that no one really knows what the next 10 years will look like. The ways in which we communicate and absorb information is going to change radically. By working together in more collaborative ways, we will be able to meet these changes and challenges that lie ahead in a more positive and productive manner.
Please remember our ABC Night Jan. 13. This is a joint event between our chapter and the Risk Management Association that will feature guest speaker Keith Slotter, CPA and special agent in charge for the San Diego Division of the FBI. Keith will discuss corporate fraud and ethics in today’s society. This will be a great opportunity to network with attorneys, bankers and CPAs, and to hear a great talk on a very timely subject.
Also keep in mind CPA Day at the Capitol Jan. 20. Please take this opportunity to join us in Sacramento to speak with our representatives about statewide issues that are important to our profession. It would also be a good opportunity to attend the CalCPA Council meeting in Sacramento Jan. 21. These meetings are open to all members. If you were wondering what goes on at these meetings or if you are considering becoming more involved with CalCPA on the state level, then this would be a great way to find out more and broaden your network of friends and colleagues.
I wish everyone a very successful and prosperous new year!
