Success in Fours
By Joseph A. Forlenza, CPA
As you may know, Gov. Schwarzenegger has signed four bills into law that are important to our profession. The most important of these bills, SB 819, will finally allow California CPAs to become substantially equivalent with most other states without having to register on a state-by-state basis to conduct minor business across state lines. I would like to thank all our chapter members who participated in this effort by going to Sacramento and visiting their individual legislators in the San Diego area. I would also like to extend a big thank you to Bruce Allen, Jeannie Tindel and Paul Regan for their efforts as our government relations team in coordinating and driving this important effort.
Congratulations to Melody Thornton, our chapter’s first vice president, for being nominated to the 16th Annual Women Who Mean Business Awards. This event, which is sponsored by the San Diego Business Journal, recognizes outstanding women business leaders for their achievements and contributions to San Diego. An award luncheon will be held Tuesday, Oct. 27 at the Town and Country Resort and Convention Center in Mission Valley.
As fall arrives, I encourage you to take advantage of the many great CPE opportunities that we have available at the chapter level, including joint events across both professions and committees. You can register for all events online. The 13th Annual Tax and Accounting Institute will be held Wednesday, Nov. 18- 20. This is a wonderful way to obtain CPE and network with your peers. Also, this year we will join the San Diego County Bar Association for a beach clean-up in November. This is a great community service opportunity to help keep San Diego the beautiful place it has always been. See you at a future event!
