YEP Mentors Needed for AICPA Legacy Scholars Program

Each year, the AICPA’s Legacy Scholars program awards more than 100 scholarships to talented accounting students across the nation – from high school seniors to graduate students and everything in between. As participants, students will complete eight hours of service each semester by planning and implementing events that support and promote the accounting profession. In addition, scholars can request a CPA coach they can turn to throughout the year with questions or advice related to fulfilling service requirements, sitting for the CPA Exam, career exploration, interview preparation, or general guidance as they journey through college and/or transition to the workforce.

The AICPA’s Academic & Student Engagement team is currently seeking volunteer coaches for the 2017-18 academic year who have their CPA license, at least two years of full-time professional work experience, and a desire to grow and develop future accountants.

We expect coaches to be able/willing to:

  • Commit approximately 5 – 10 hours each month to emailing, texting, and/or talking via phone or in-person with assigned scholar(s) over the course of the 2017 – 18 academic year
  • Answer student questions about CPA licensure and the accounting profession and help students progress toward academic and professional goals
  • Foster and develop student’s interest in the AICPA and state societies, and make them aware of engagement/volunteer opportunities within their state and national associations

Please contact Claire Jefferies, Lead Manager – Academic & Student Engagement team, via email by August 31st at claire.jefferies@aicpa-cima.com if you have questions or are interested in becoming an AICPA Legacy Scholars Coach. On behalf of our students and the AICPA, thank you for your commitment to our scholars and the future generation of accounting leaders!
