Surviving the Madness
By Patrick D. Rogan, CPA
March is traditionally considered “March Madness” month, referring to the NCAA basketball tourney. Well, that may well be the way many of us are feeling right now. Too much to do and not enough time to get it all done.
The ABC Night at the Sutter Club was a smashing success. This was the second year of the event and it was sold out again—long before the date of the event. Those of you who attended had a wonderful time mixing with peers, attorneys and bankers. Those of you who tried to register late and missed out, shame on you for waiting so long to register. A hearty thank you goes to David Motes, Rob Wallace, Anjela Dyatlov and Annette Stalker for organizing such a wonderful and fun event.
The chapter awarded $14,500 in college scholarships to the following individuals: William Dimopulos and Gabriel Villanueva, American River College; Joel Mann, CSU Chico; Stephanie Jarzen Pan, CSUS Sacramento; Sean Gorban, Ariana Daniela Martucci, James Baeza and Laura Lee Hayes, Sacramento City College; and Tanya Purvis, Shasta College.
The committee this year received the highest number of applications—21 students from 10 colleges and universities. I want to thank the committee for its hard work.
Some of the increased interest was due to campus champions (liaisons) at some schools who helped promote CalCPA to those campuses. I am looking for individuals who would like to volunteer as liaisons between the chapter and the colleges and universities. Do you live or work near a college or university? Can you take a few moments of your time each semester to make contact with the faculty? If so, please contact me and I will put you in touch with the appropriate faculty.
Serena Trovato, our program associate for the past six years, has retired to pursue other interests. I would like to take this opportunity to wish her well in her new endeavors and thank her for her wonderful and committed service to the chapter these past years. I would now like to welcome Dana Agosti, CPA, as our new program associate. I look forward to working with her now and in the future.
Keep at it! May these long days of March lead into the brighter days of spring.
I welcome your comments and suggestions and would like to hear from you. Contact me via e-mail I read each comment and respond.
