The dragon is the fifth symbol in the 12-year Chinese astrological calendar and is associated with confidence and success, so this Year of the Dragon is an appropriate time to explore the opportunities involved in doing business with China and India, and the opportunities presented by Asian investment in the United States.

CalCPA’s Peninsula/Silicon Valley and Silicon Valley San Jose chapters are joining forces with the Financial Planning Association of Silicon Valley to present a briefing from Yelena Takhtamanova, an economist with the Federal Reserve Bank in San Francisco. Her discussion will focus on the macroeconomic outlook, recent monetary policy actions and expectations for 2012.

The chapter will award its inaugural Award for Excellence to young and emerging professionals—those CalCPA members with five years or less work experience who have made an extraordinary contribution to their firm or community. The application deadline is Oct.19.

Attention students! The chapter has $15,000 available to present to outstanding accounting students this fall. Individual awards will range from $250–$2,000 and you can find application forms including eligibility criteria online. The application deadline is Oct.3 and awards will be presented at our Student Night, which is a free event for students! Come and network with local firm professionals and hear a presentation on resume writing and interview techniques.
