Nonprofit Seeks Retired Tax Practitioner Volunteers
Tax-Aid, a local nonprofit that provides free tax services for low-income families in the Bay Area is looking for retired tax practitioners to volunteer for a new service.
“After over 20 years of providing free tax preparation, Tax-Aid is adding an educational component to our work,” says president Kenneth Lee, CPA. “We’re launching a series of workshops for low-income self-employed taxpayers to teach them how to keep good records and to pay self-employment taxes in a proper and timely fashion. We’re looking for tax practitioners willing to help as instructors.”
The two-hour workshops will focus initially on workers providing childcare, housekeeping and other similar services. Materials and instructor training will be provided by Tax-Aid.
Other workshops in the pipeline include Understanding the Basics of Income Taxes, How to Obtain an ITIN (Individual Taxpayer Identification Number) and How to Complete the FAFSA (Free Application for Financial Aid).
For more information on how to volunteer, contact Kristy Koberna via e-mail or phone (415) 963-8911.
