Highlights
By Jeff Lenning
Hopefully, your summer is well under way and you are relaxing with family and friends. I know our family is loving summer so far. We have three kids at home, ages 2, 5 and 7 (picture below) so summertime is fun-for-all. We are enjoying the warm weather, swimming, barbeques, VBS and Super Mario Galaxy 2.

As you may know, about 12 percent of our chapter’s members attend events. Thus, I’d like to highlight a couple of upcoming events that may capture your interest and hopefully convince 88 percent of you to join all of the fun we are having.
First, the 24th annual Fall Seminar Series will take place at the Irvine Marriott (same as last year) beginning Sept. 21. Our lineup of speakers is amazing this year, and I wouldn’t want you to miss this event. This event is an inexpensive way to get a bunch of terrific CPE! You can register online.
Next, our chapter’s newest interest group—North OC Discussion Group—meets in Anaheim. If you are looking to meet some nice CPAs, learn from key speakers, and your office is in Northern OC, this may just be the group for you. Plus, you gotta eat breakfast anyway, so why not get some CPE while you are at it?
In addition to highlighting upcoming events, I’d like to highlight a recent event: our chapter leader organizational meeting. I am thrilled to be working with such an enthusiastic and smart group of people. They are dedicated to our chapter and to making our events sensational. These volunteers work hard to plan these events and bring them to life. You really ought to attend some of our upcoming interest group meetings because these energetic leaders are going through the effort to set up these events for YOU.
Now, I would like to just plant a seed. Be thinking about CFOs that you know or that you’d like to know. As you are driving around in your car, drinking your Starbucks coffee or playing (um, working) on your iPad, think about which CFO you may want to submit as a nominee for the CFO of the Year event. More details to come.
I’d like to ask you to watch for something, as well. Watch for times when your vendors or other contacts you know could benefit from getting introduced to CPAs for marketing purposes. Let’s say that a vendor you use is great, and would really be able to serve other CPAs. Ask them if they’d like to sponsor one of our events. They could sponsor any interest group meeting, or bigger events like the Fall Seminar Series or our networking events. Brian Rush is heading up the sponsorship committee, so he’d be the one your vendor should contact.
Hope you are enjoying your summer, and hope to see you at an upcoming event!
