Looking Ahead
By Jeff Lenning
I’m not sure about you, but I’m looking forward to what the rest of this year will bring. Sure, busy season is over and summer and warm weather are here, birds are chirping, butterflies are flying, Lady Gaga is coming to LA, and that is all terrific. But 2010 has some really exciting technology!
Microsoft is set to release its next version of Office, and Windows 7 is ready to roll. Plus, Apple recently released the iPad. Electronic book readers have come into their own, and maybe, if we are lucky, Verizon will carry the iPhone.
Plus, our chapter is having some wonderful events! I hope that you make time for them. As you know, chapter leadership puts a lot of work into member events, and well, the events are just not as fun without you. We saw 12 percent of our chapter members came out to events last year. I’m hoping to see the other 88 percent this year! So, join us this year, won’t you?
Some of the highlights are:
- Interest group meetings. If you have an interest, there’s an interest group for you. What are you into? Technology? Business? Financial stuff? There are other CPAs who share your interests and meet regularly to talk about them. Visit our chapter calendar or contact our program coordinator to find an interest group for you.
- Fall Seminar Series
- Council meeting at Disneyland
- CPA Day at the Capitol
- Economic forecast
- Mixers and networking events
You know, CalCPA members are just like you, and the best way to meet them is to attend some events, and in particular, the interest group meetings where the setting is small and where it is safe. Don’t be shy. There are lots of other folks just like you that you’d probably get along well with.
I’m looking forward to serving our chapter this year in my new role; looking forward to working with the officers, board and chairs; and looking forward to getting to know you just a little better.
