Chapter Events Kick In After Busy Season

By Brian Rush, CPA

9_pres_sm_0.jpgIt is a very busy time for all of us, but I want to inform you of some important chapter events on the horizon. Please join us Thursday, May 6, for our post-busy season mixer at Zov’s Bistro in Tustin from 6–9 p.m. Take this opportunity to relax with your colleagues and meet your 2010–11 chapter officers and board directors. Please register for this event online.

CalCPA has instituted a certificate leadership program for young and emerging professionals. The program is limited to CalCPA members who have been licensed 0-five years. Participants will meet monthly beginning in May, and the cost is $259 for the full seven-session certificate program. Keep in mind that even though you may not be eligible for the certificate program, you can access the program’s individual webcasts, which are open to all members. The registration deadline is fast approaching. If you are interested, please sign up online.

CalCPA’s Annual Members’ Business Meeting will be held Thursday, June 24, at the Disneyland Hotel. We encourage you to attend to learn more about CalCPA’s activities on your behalf and to elect next year’s officers, board and council members. This also is a great opportunity to network with colleagues from around the state. After the business meeting, CalCPA members are invited to attend the reception and dinner at Disneyland Festival Arena, from 6–9 p.m. for $75.

As you may know, our chapter has created a $30,000 scholarship for an accounting Ph.D. candidate at UCI. This money will be awarded in annual $10,000 increments to a deserving candidate during a three-year period. The goal is to encourage promising students to become accounting professors and teach our future CPAs. We will announce the winner of this year’s scholarship in the next issue of this Bulletin.

Another upcoming event is the chapter’s 41st Annual CPA/Golf Guest Day, scheduled for Tuesday, May 18, at the Tustin Ranch Golf Course. As always, this event will feature a shotgun start at noon followed by a hosted bar, barbeque dinner and awards ceremony. Come join your friends and enjoy a relaxing round of golf. Contact your golfing buddies, arrange a foursome and register for this special event. Remember, all proceeds go to the chapter scholarship fund.

Good luck through the remainder of the busy season and enjoy some much-deserved time off when things get back to normal. I look forward to seeing all of you at one or more of the upcoming chapter events.
