Looking Forward
By Brian Rush, CPA
I sincerely hope 2010 is a prosperous and rewarding year for all of you!
The new year looks to be a great one for our chapter. We begin Jan. 19 with the Economic Forecast Breakfast, co-sponsored by the Newport Beach Chamber of Commerce. I hope you can attend—and perhaps bring a client with you. This is a very interesting and informative event. Register at the CalCPA website.
We are planning another mixer for late April and would like to hold it someplace different. We have twice had mixers in Newport Beach and once in Fullerton, so maybe it’s time to have one in South County. Let me know if you have a favorite watering hole with good food.
We are beginning to identify nominees for next year’s board of director positions, and as always we are looking for members who have an interest in chapter leadership. The time commitment should not prevent anyone from considering involvement, and I can assure you that serving on the board is a rewarding experience. If you are interested in becoming a board member, perhaps this year or next, any of our board members would be happy to chat with you about the activities and time commitment. Drop me an e-mail so I can match you with someone who can answer your questions.
Another project for the coming year is the reinstitution of several interest groups. We are considering reinstituting a discussion group, which will provide a convenient meeting opportunity for those of you in North County. Each meeting will have a speaker who will address a timely topic and continuing education credits will be available. We are also looking at re-establishing the Taxation Interest Group, which will bring a very important topic back to chapter members who practice in this area. Lastly, we are seeking someone to step up and chair the Sole Proprietor/Small Firm Interest Group, which will address practice management issues for small firms. Again, if any members are interested in leading or actively participating in any of these activities, please drop me an e-mail.
As we get ready for another busy season and the stress that inevitably comes with it, let’s remember that we have other obligations to ourselves, our families and our community that are important and should not be ignored. Take some time in January to figure out a way to make time to do some of the nonwork related activities that you enjoy. You will be glad you did.
My best to all of you!
