Three Reasons to Network with CalCPA

By Jeremy Salvador, Student, Young and Emerging Committee Member

As a young and emerging accounting professional, I’ve found networking with the CalCPA invaluable. Here are three great reasons why you need to start networking at CalCPA mixers:

Relationships: It’s been said that your network is your net worth. CalCPA networking events are a great way to build your network. You’ll find people who are well connected and highly knowledgeable. Through CalCPA I’ve been able to build real relationships with quality people who are experts and authorities in their fields.

Mentorships: As much as you would like to think so, you don’t know it all. If you are just starting your career or even if you are a seasoned professional, you need to know more than you know now to take your career to the next level. I make it a point to challenge myself to network and find the people out there who know more than I do, and are willing to share their knowledge and experience. CalCPA mixers are a great place to start.

Citizenship: Everyone knows that being a member is entirely differently from being an active member. Participating in CalCPA networking events speaks worlds about who you are. When I attend these events, I use it as an opportunity to show the commitment I have in giving back to CalCPA.

Networking is an important aspect of doing business and building your career. Approach it with the right attitude and you’ll see doors swing open.

Jeremy, I am a student at California State University, Northridge. I wanted to know how frequent CalCPA events are per month, and if students are invited to all the events.
I also would like to know what other benefits that you get from CalCPA membership besides networking. Thank you!
