An Exciting Year
By Johanna Sweaney Salt, CPA
This year’s chapter leadership team is an extremely gifted and dedicated group. We recently spent a productive day planning events for the upcoming year. After taking into consideration the results of the chapter survey at the end of last year, we have included new events, different times and days, and updated topics. The following is this year’s schedule. Won’t you take a moment and jot the dates in your calendar?
- *Sept. 9: Luncheon Event: Licensing Renewal Requirements
- Sept. 16: Early Evening Member/Guest Social
- *Sept. 29: Dinner Meeting: Accounting and Auditing Update
- *Oct. 20: Breakfast Meeting: Health Care Reform—What You Need to Know
- Oct. 29: YEP/Student Event
- Nov. 9: Inaugural ABC Night (proceeds benefit Scholarship Fund)
- November: YEP Social and Networking Event
- *Dec. 1: Luncheon Event: Tax Update
- Jan. 14: Eight-hour CPE Event (proceeds benefit Scholarship Fund)
- *Jan. 27: Dinner Meeting: Technology
- March: YEP Social and Networking Event
- May: Annual Golf Tournament (proceeds benefit Scholarship Fund)
Start thinking about who you’d like to invite—member or not—to one of more of these events. As our profession “grays,” consider reaching out to a candidate or a zero- to five-year licensee. Introduce them to the many benefits of interacting with their peers; networking and mentoring are invaluable to their future success. The first year of CalCPA membership is free for candidates!
We are also very pleased to announce that there has been no price increase for chapter meetings: $50 for three hours of CPE, including food. Additionally, we have instituted a special discount program. You may have noticed asterisks beside some of the above events and wondered what they meant. Well, if you prepay for these five events, you will get a 10 percent discount—five chapter events for only $225. The deadline for this offer is Sept. 1, so be sure to act quickly.
One of the things I appreciate about the lazy days of summer is being able to enjoy rest, recreation and time with my family and friends. These are important activities to help balance the craziness of our busy season, whether caused by tax, audit or something else. I hope you are also able to enjoy downtime this summer. See you in September!
