Welcome to a New Year
By Johanna Sweaney Salt, CPA
Welcome to our 2010–11 fiscal year. As chapter president, it is my great pleasure to say, “Happy spring!” and to let you know about some of our chapter’s exciting and worthwhile upcoming events.
As many of us emerge from our busy season, how about some fun—that at the same time benefits a worthwhile cause? I’m talking, of course, about our annual golf tournament. The Inland Empire Chapter CPA Shootout takes place May 17 at the Redlands Country Club—one of the premier golf courses in our area. Net proceeds benefit our chapter’s scholarship fund, which in turn benefits Inland Empire area accounting students.
The Management of an Accounting Practice Discussion Group continues its monthly breakfast meetings May 27 at 7:30 a.m. at the Village Grill in Claremont. And on the following day, join your fellow chapter members for an evening of food, wine tasting and jazz as we show our appreciation for the chapter’s leadership of the past year—and install the new officers, directors and committee chairs. The event will be held at Claremont’s Packing House, a wonderfully restored landmark in Claremont’s Village. Music will be provided by a jazz quartet led by Matt Snyder. Please register online.
Your chapter leadership recently spent some time surveying the chapter membership about the types of events they would like the chapter to present. We received excellent feedback from quite a few of you, and are taking the findings into consideration as we continue the planning process for our monthly chapter meetings, which will begin in September. Look for new topics, locations and meeting times. I think you will be intrigued! If you have never attended a chapter event, or it’s been some time since you have, this is a perfect year for you to check out a meeting or two—or more!
I am delighted to usher in a new year with a remarkable leadership team, and look forward to seeing many of you through the year. If you have a request, comment, idea—or just want to say hello—please feel free to e-mail me.
