Thank You to Our Team

By Evan Strano, CPA

8_pres_sm_0.jpgAs my term as chapter president winds down, I would like to express my gratitude to all those who worked so hard and gave so much to make this year a success. This year’s leadership team has been exactly that: a team. When working with our leaders, I always felt the group exuded a sense of the common good and wanted to bring the best to the membership and community. Between the board of directors, officers and CalCPA staff, we worked to create programs and activities to meet the needs of our chapter members.

This fiscal year CalCPA celebrated its 100th anniversary. The CalCPA Council meeting and gala held in June provided a wonderful time of reflection on what CalCPA and its membership have accomplished in the first century of the organization’s existence. At the local level, we also celebrated CalCPA’s birthday with a gala of our own at Riverside’s Mission Inn. A thank you goes to CalCPA Chair Andrea Cope for attending and being our guest and speaker for the evening.

Many other important activities occurred throughout the year. For example, we held our student event at UC Riverside and implemented a new format. At the beginning of the event, we presented separate sessions for students and professionals, and we then held a joint networking session to help the students build that very important skill. The year also featured an event jointly sponsored by our MAP and Business and Industry committees. Additionally, our YEP Committee was busy planning activities for its niche and held several successful events. Many other interesting and informative events occurred throughout the year, and a thank you goes to all of the committee chairs for their work in planning and presenting these opportunities to our membership.

I also thank this year’s officers and board of directors. They made the year a great success. I also offer a special thank you to our chapter program associate, Monica Thompson, who provides the grease for the wheels of chapter activities. What would we do without her?

Lastly, I would like to express my appreciation to you, the chapter membership, for choosing me as your 2009–10 chapter president. Serving in this role has been both enjoyable and challenging. It has been a wonderful experience for me, and I consider it to have been a great honor. Thank you for the opportunity to serve.
