CalCPA/IRS Liaison Meeting
By Michael Moore, CPA, chair, chapter Taxation Committee
Representatives of the CalCPA Committee on Taxation and the IRS met Nov. 18 to discuss issues raised by tax practitioners. IRS personnel led the discussion in nine areas:
- Examination and Technical Issues
- Collections
- Estate and Gift Tax
- Area Counsel
- Appeals
- Taxpayer Advocate Service
- Forms, Publications and Other Issues
- E-File, E-Services and E-Pay
- Campus Issues
For each topic, the designated IRS representative discussed general issues related to his or her area. This discussion then proceeded to the practitioners’ questions that had been prepared in advance of the meeting. For most questions, the IRS had already prepared its written response, and the questions and answers were reproduced as meeting materials. However, the IRS representatives also addressed numerous questions from CALCPA audience members.
