Make an Impact in the New Year: CPA Day in Sacramento

Registration is open for the next CPA Day at the Capitol–Jan. 31–in Sacramento. This event allows members to set the groundwork for CalCPA’s advocacy efforts for the upcoming session by discussing important issues facing the CPA profession and businesses.

CPA Day provides members with the chance to be at the forefront of several key issues, such as taxes on professional service proposals. The Legislature will reconvene in January, and CalCPA plans to once again maintain an active presence in the Capitol.

New Law Sets Jan. 31 W-2 Filing Deadline

A new federal law moves up the W-2 filing deadline for employers and small businesses to Jan. 31, making it easier for the IRS to find and stop refund fraud.

Employers normally had until the end of February, if filing on paper, or the end of March, if filing electronically, to send in copies of these forms. The IRS is working with the payroll community and other partners to spread the word.

The change, however, also will mean delays for some taxpayer refunds. Those taxpayers claiming the Earned Income Tax Credit or the Additional Child Tax Credit won\’92t see refunds until Feb.15, at the earliest.
