I want to thank you for your great endowment to my career development. Being awarded with the CalCPA scholarship has served as great motivation for me to set even higher career goals and put even more effort into achieving them. I recently had a chance to interview with PwC, and they were very impressed with this award on my résumé. Your faith in my academic success helps me experience incredible excitement for my future in the professional accounting world. Thank you for your dedication to the accounting students of Fresno Pacific University.
Note: Maxim is an international student at Fresno Pacific University majoring in accounting. He is from Moldova and his goal is to sit for the CPA Exam after graduation.

My family and I want to thank you from the bottom of our hearts. I know that times are hard right now, so I want to thank you for this generous gift. This year was a crazy year for me. I was working two jobs and practicing soccer so I can still come to Fresno Pacific University. My dad helped me from what he can give me and I have been trying to help him by working at his tire company. Thank you very much for helping me and getting me closer to that accounting degree.

Many of you may wonder, “What is the “scholarship fund?” Our chapter’s scholarship fund is invested in a “combined scholarship” portfolio that is managed by an outside brokerage firm under the investment guidelines established by the CalCPA Combined Scholarship Investment Policy Statement.
An Investment Committee meets quarterly to review performance, asset allocation, etc. Each month, our chapter receives a “Statement of Fund Activities,” which shows the beginning fund balance, current contributions, investments earnings/losses and ending fund balance. The ending fund balance represents the amount of money available to give out in scholarships. Most recently, we had an ending fund balance of $11,007.
In addition, our chapter has two endowed scholarship funds: one at Fresno State and one at Fresno Pacific. In light of the economy, contributions and investment earnings have been decreasing, so please consider making a tax-deductible contribution before the end of the year.

September was a busy month for our chapter. Our annual Day of Caring Sept. 12, hosted by United Way, started with a pancake and sausage breakfast. About 20 local CPAs, friends and family members spent the better part of the day at the Community Food Bank, where, believe it or not, we had the opportunity to “count beans.”
A special thanks to Baker Peterson & Franklin, KRM Risk Management, Morse Yardumian & Wittwer, and Paul Chen Accountancy Corporation for volunteering their time and energy. A big round of thanks also goes to United Way for helping coordinate this special day, and also to the staff of the Community Food Bank.
