After Tax Season
By Sheryl Yardumian, CPA
With busy season nearly behind us, it is time to look ahead to the rest of 2010. Our annual board retreat will be held Monday, May 17, at Bass Lake to plan our events for the upcoming year, and determine our chapter’s goals and objectives. In attendance will be officers, directors and committee chairs. Highlights of that meeting will be included in our next chapter Bulletin.
The March Bulletin announced the 2010-11 officer slate for our chapter. Unfortunately, since that was published, one of the officers tendered her letter of resignation, which resulted in a couple of changes:
Secretary: Tim Baker
Treasurer: Norman Wong
Director: Laura Cullen
Many of you who are members of the Young & Emerging Professionals group received an e-mail a couple of weeks ago announcing the CalCPA Emerging Leaders Certificate Program. Program prticipants program will meet monthly, May through January (excluding September and October). This is an excellent opportunity and I urge all interested YEPs to enroll in this program.
There are a couple of regulatory changes that came into effect in 2010 which impact many, if not all, of our members. The first is changes in continuing education, which now requires four hours of ethics each renewal period. Please refer to the CalCPA website for more information and visit the Education Foundation’s website for a listing of classes offered.
The second is mandatory peer review, which was finally adopted by the state of California and is now required for all California CPA firms who perform attest work. More information on the peer review program is available on the CalCPA website.
