YEP Awards
By Sheryl Yardumian, CPA
As we are getting ready for the holiday season and winding down our chapter activities in preparation for busy season, I wanted to thank everyone for making last month’s Member Awards Dinner a huge success.
The evening was filled with excitement from the very beginning when the chapter received a certificate of recognition from Mayor Ashley Swearingin in commemoration of CalCPA’s 100-year anniversary. We were fortunate to have a very entertaining and energetic speaker who provided the group with some valuable advice. Later in the evening, we celebrated with beautifully decorated cakes complete with the CalCPA logo.
Another highlight of the evening was the presentation of the Young Emerging Professional Awards. I would like to thank Terri West and Laura Cullen, who served with my on the Nominations Committee, for their time and effort, and I of course want to thank the firms that participated in the nomination process. The award winners were:
- Brenda Aguirre: YEP Demonstrating Determination
- Brian Henderson: YEP Demonstrating Leadership & Teamwork
- Henry Oum: YEP for Community Service & Demonstrating Inspirational Qualities
- Nicole Centofanti: YEP of the Year!
These individuals are well-deserving of the awards, and I would like to congratulate each one.
Council Meeting
The CalCPA Council meeting was held in November. A portion of the day was spent discussing the bills that the governor recently signed, and attendees participated in a roundtable with young and emerging professionals from around the state. We were very proud that our own Tim Hancock, president of the Fresno YEP Committee, was one of the presenters.
Other Interesting News
Many of you know that our chapter program associate, Kay Coffin, has been out on disability leave since June. In her absence Julie Jameson and Gary Hammond from the Redwood City office have helped our chapter with administration. Thank you, Julie and Gary, for all of your hard work. And, welcome back Kay—we have certainly missed you!
Our board of directors Nominations Committee is looking for individuals interested in serving as a board member. In addition, we need a committee chair for the Business & Industry Committee. The board of director’s position is a two-year term, and the committee chair is a one-year term. This is a great opportunity to become involved in your local chapter. If you are interested, please contact me.
I would like to wish all of you and your families a very special holiday season and a happy new year. For those of you who will be traveling, I wish you safe travel to wherever your destination may be. Merry Christmas.
