Golf Tournament and More
By Sheryl M. Yardumian, CPA
Fall has definitely arrived in the Central Valley. And with Thanksgiving only a couple of weeks away, it is only appropriate that we give thanks to some deserving people.
Our annual golf tournament was held Oct. 26 at Fort Washington. The tournament was a lot of fun, but most importantly, we raised more than $8,000 for our scholarship fund and exceeded our expectations. I would like to thank all of the players, sponsors, donors and, of course, Fort Washington for helping make this event a success. A very special thank you goes out to our committee members who spent several months planning the event: Bob Price, Edgar Blunt, Jim Gaddis, Brittany Giersch and Dave Denham. In addition, Denham Resources provided volunteers who helped the entire day. We could not have done this without your help.
I would like to congratulate all of the winners of the tournament:
- Low Net: Chris Morse, Sheryl Yardumian, Ken Wittwer, Gina Estrada
- Low Gross: Rod Thornton, Mel Dedekian, Mike Reiniche, Gregg Tonneslan
- High Gross: Stephen Nazaroff, Lee Henricksen, Joel Perkins, Brian Stubbert
- Ladies Long Drive: Lauren Nii
- Men’s Long Drive 49 & under: Tory Sherman
- Men’s Long Drive 50 & over: Alan Caeton
- Men’s Closest to Pin #17: Ken Baker (6’ 6”)
- Ladies Closest to Pin #3: no winner
It was a great day for everybody who played!
Member Awards
There is still time to nominate deserving individuals for one of the six Young Emerging Professionals awards and the Distinguished Member Award. The nomination deadline has been extended to Nov. 10 and the Nominations Committee will select the winners Nov. 12. Award will be presented at our annual Member Awards dinner Nov. 17.
If you have not yet reserved your table for the Member Awards dinner, you can do so online.
Regulatory Update
Four important bills related to the profession were signed into law by the governor in October. The passage of these bills, particularly the 150-hour rule, is a victory for California CPAs and will help make us equivalent with other states. These bills include:
- SB 819: Requires all California CPAs licensed after 2014 to have 150 hours of college education
- AB 138: Mandatory peer review
- AB 117: License status disclosure
- AB 129: Reinstates a taxpayer privilege provision
Please visit CalCPA.org for more information on these bills.
Continuing Education
Everyone should be aware that our continuing education requirements related to ethics has changed. Effective Jan. 1, 2010, all licensees renewing a license on or after Jan. 1, 2010, will be required to complete four hours of ethics education, and a two-hour CBA-approved Regulatory Review course if more than six years have lapsed since the licensee last completed a CBA-approved Professional Conduct and Ethics course.
In addition, all licensees renewing a license on or after Jan. 1, 2012, will be required to complete a minimum of 20 hours of continuing education, including a minimum of 12 hours in technical subject matter, in each year of the two-year license renewal period.
For more information on these changes, visit the CalCPA website or the CBA website.
Upcoming Events
Several low-cost CPE opportunities are available between now and the end of the year:
