The Old and the New
By Scott Haislet
The new and old came together July 20 at the Lafayette Park Hotel for our Past Presidents Night and new member orientation.
It’s my guess that some of those newly oriented in 2010 will, many years from now, regale us with tales of years gone by. It would not surprise me if, in 2049, someone will be telling us about how (in 2025) you would stick an electronic tongue depressor in your mouth and your firm’s website entry would be populated with inner most (accounting) thoughts, all spell-checked and ready to go.
I know that’s how I recall 1982 when the Big Eight partner pointed at an early IBM PC and said to me, “Hey, kid, turn on that TV set, and let’s see what happens!”
For now, we can look back on 2010’s Past Presidents Night as having been a great success, bringing together the old and new.
Now, for some save the date events:
- Our chapter will hold its Low-cost Education event Aug. 21, which includes a full day of relevant topics such as fraud schemes, peer review, technology traps and A&A guidance.
- Don’t forget ABC Night Sept. 28 at Scott’s Walnut Creek. Our board meeting will precede the festivities.
- Also, mark Sports Night for Oct. 26, which also will be preceeded by a board meeting. Check future bulletins for more details.
One last note: If you are interested in being a chapter board member or if you have nominees to be considered, contact Nominating Committee chair Michele Day or chapter program associate Soco Davenport by Sept. 17. The Nominating Committee will select a slate of candidates in September that will then be presented to the board of directors at its Oct. 26 meeting. The approved slate will be published in the December Bulletin and call for nominations from the membership will be made at that time in preparation for the ballot in January.
