What a Way to Cap a Year!

By Joelyn Carr-Fingerle

6_pres_sm_0.jpgWhat a wonderful E-ticket ride it’s been this year! I can’t believe it has whizzed by so fast—sort of like some of those roller coaster rides. Please join us for CalCPA’s Annual Meeting June 24 at Disneyland. (Some of our younger members may not remember A through E tickets at Disneyland).

Our chapter year’s final event is coming up April 20—the Post-Busy Season Film Festival. Hank Levy has put together a wonderful program, and the theme is the IRS in films. I only regret that my dad, a former IRS auditor, will only be able to join us in spirit. I know he would be tickled! Do sign up and join us. It will be a great time.

If nothing else this year, I have learned the value of looking for the enjoyment and fun in all that we do. Life is just too short to do otherwise. We have had some fun times—from our chapter’s 60th birthday party at Past President’s Night to ABC Night to the technical session at Tax Night. I’m not going to review all the activities we’ve had, but we’ve had many opportunities to really enjoy ourselves and learn something. Thank you all for your support as you honored me by allowing me to be your chapter president. I could not have done it without the team of chapter directors and officers, and all the committee chairs as well. I’d like to name them so you know who they are:

Chapter officers and directors: Scott Haislet, AJ Major, Mary Geong, Michele Day, Tom Bret, Lynn Gardner, Elaine Kawsaki, Jamie Menasco, Jenise Gaskin, Tom Hatfield, Patt Mayer, Sue Tulis and Bob Jones.

Committee chairs: AJ Major, Olga Martinez, Jenise Gaskin, John Benson, Anna Maria Galdieri, Michele Day, Hank Levy, Steve Willis, Tom Parry, Leslie Dawson, Tom O’Sullivan, Jamie Menasco, Rob Anderson, Joy Puyear, JD Miller, Don Glenn, Iana Zemniakova, Zachary Sahar, John Levy, Jim Sanders, Jason McKenna, Charles Daniels and Beth Rasler.

I reserve special thanks for our program director, Vince Chin, and our program associate, Soco Davenport. Soco is the one person who truly makes this chapter tick. She ensures that all the events are planned and executed so that they flow smoothly, with the communications getting out to you, the members, in a timely manner. Thank you, Soco—we would not be where we are without you.

Also, thank you all for allowing me to be your chapter president. Thank you for coming, calling and caring. We have had great attendance at so many meetings and events. I’m glad so many of you could join us. Thank you all for taking the time to read my monthly musings, and sometimes responding. I’ve enjoyed hearing your thoughts, suggestions and opinions.

It has been a lot of fun, and the year has just flown by. Please join me in supporting incoming president Scott Haislet and his team. Scott has some fun and new activities planned, starting with a Spring ABC Night. Put May 18 on your calendar and be there or be square!
