Did You Know …
By J.D. Miller, CPA
As chair of the East Bay Chapter’s Practitioner’s Emergency Committee, I am available to help practitioners with emergencies pertaining to situations outside of our chapter and can be reached at (707) 642-8987 or trustedadvisor@covad.net.
As an example of how this service can help CPAs (or their families), I once assisted in a situation where a CPA passed away in the middle of tax season. The emergency was for his spouse, clients and employees, and another CPA heard about this unexpected death and called me. Ask yourself, if this were your practice, what things would need to be done?
In situations like this, having a little assistance can relieve a lot of pain and anxiety. Sometimes, all I need to do is to send some information to the deceased’s spouse, because another practitioner already has stepped in to help. A CPA practice is often a substantial asset for the estate, but much of its value can disappear quickly if the right steps aren’t taken immediately.
If you become aware of a practitioner who has a medical emergency or disability or who has recently died, call me. I’ll make contact right away. It’s a small thing you can do for your professional colleagues.
