Setting Goals for a Great Year Ahead
By Patricia K. Krout, CPA
I’m so excited about writing my first president’s message. Our chapter could not exist without the support of our members. I’d like to thank Gail Anikouchine, Jeff Dottl, Raj Acharya, Jason Janzen, Yusuf Balogun, Darcia Stebbens and Jessica Johnson for rounding out the board this year. We couldn’t provide quality CPE without our state liaison members and chapter committee chairs.
Also, a big thank you to Don Loster (Accounting Education), Gail Anikouchine (Accounting Principles and Auditing Standards, and CalCPA Council), Eileen Sheridan (Estate Planning and Taxation), Susan Jacobson (Financial Literacy and Conejo Valley Discussion Group), Jeff Dottl (Golf Tournament), Donna Nelson (Management of an Accounting Practice), Adrienne Huff and Jessica Johnson (Young and Emerging Professionals), Chris Reed (Santa Barbara AP&AS), Raj Acharya (Ventura AP&AS), Mike Ray (Santa Barbara Discussion Group) and Garry Jones (Ventura Discussion Group).
We are still looking for a few of you to lead the Personal Financial Planning Committee and Chapter Grassroots program. If you are interested, please let us know. We also couldn’t exist without our program director, Kay Coffin, and our wonderful program associate, Rita Williams, who has been a lifesaver for many of us in the chapter. Thanks to all of you in advance for your hard work and commitment to the profession!
One of my goals this year is getting the Santa Barbara AP&AS group active again—and we are well on our way to making that happen. We had a special two-hour event in January with Jim Kennedy and have another special two-hour program planned in June with Al Partington. Stay tuned for more exciting offerings this committee is planning for 2010.
Another goal is to start a Santa Barbara Young and Emerging Professionals group. Jessica Johnson will be taking over for Tanya Shapiro in the Ventura/Oxnard area, and I’m pleased to announce that Adrienne Huff, who also serves on the Santa Barbara Discussion Group, has agreed to chair the Santa Barbara group. Conrad Davis, CalCPA 2010–11 chair, informed me at a council meeting that he wanted to bring in ideas from our young and emerging professionals, and CalCPA has developed an emerging leader’s certificate program. Bartlett, Pringle and Wolf have graciously agreed to host the certificate program in its boardroom. The seven-month program starts in May and is an excellent opportunity for our young and emerging members.
A third goal is to have an ABC (Attorney, Banker and CPA) mixer in the Santa Barbara area. Jason Janzen stepped up to the plate and has started planning the August event at the beautiful Coral Casino.
There are many opportunities for you to become involved, and we need the support, so please let us know if you are interested in sponsoring or helping to plan the event.
I especially want to give a big thank you to Susan Jacobson, our chapter’s past president for her leadership.
My last thanks go to all of you for entrusting me to lead our local chapter this year. If we haven’t yet met, please introduce yourself at the next event. I hope to see many of you, including our distinguished past presidents, at all of our events, which we will have planned by the time you read this message.
