width="100" />I fondly remember a management training session several years ago about finding (or perhaps re-finding) your passion in the profession. The particular exercise was for each participant to remember what drew us to the profession. This session must have been just after the busy season, or right in the middle of the extension deadline, as most of the participants were expressing a, “Yeah, what the heck was I thinking, choosing this profession” demeanor. The leader of this session was top-notch and quickly got us on track.
I was always drawn to finance and business. The numbers, the competition, the fast pace and the interface with the latest technology were all appealing. But I couldn’t remember why accounting in particular. Then, the light bulb lit during a lecture from the head of the accounting department at my university.

CalCPA’s Accounting Education Committee is accepting nominations for the 2012-13 Outstanding Accounting Educator Award.
The award recognizes contributions to accounting education from demonstrated excellence in teaching and/or endeavors in research over a sustained period of time through:
- Excellence in teaching and mentoring, as evidenced by receiving various awards or citations;
- Educational innovation, including developing curriculum, case studies and new programs;
- Published articles in professorial or academic journals and/or written textbooks for use in accounting classes;
- Significant involvement in professional and/or academic societies and related activities.
Nominations are due by May 6. You may submit nominations online.
